The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is responsible for all policy making and legislation in England relating to food, farming and fisheries, animal health and welfare, environmental protection and sustainable development and rural communities and their issues. A certain amount of Northamptonshire ACRE’s core funding comes through agreements with DEFRA particularly around community led planning.
Rural Network East Midlands is part of DEFRA’s national Rural and Farming Network covering the whole of the East Midlands. RNEM has replaced the East Midlands Rural Affairs Forum which ceased to exist as from the end of March 2012. RNEM combines a growing body of organisations and individuals to ensure that rural areas thrive in terms of their economy, access to services, the environment, affordable housing, farming and related issues around food, climate change and skills and employment.
CRC has a statutory duty to promote awareness of the social and economic needs of people who live and work in rural areas and help decision-makers across and beyond government identify how those needs can best be addressed. CRC is currently looking at how Local Enterprise Partnerships are including rural areas in their work and have published a call for evidence, information and views from all involved parties. Refer to their website for the full details.
The Rural Services Network is a membership organisation devoted to safeguarding and improving services in rural communities across England. RSN is the only national network specifically focusing on this vital aspect of rural life.
