Hunsbury Hill Centre Restoration Project

Northamptonshire ACRE was awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund Project Planning Grant, for the planning stage of the Hunsbury Hill Centre Restoration Project. This grant was for vital planning and development needed to restore the grade II listed farm buildings. Unfortunately this application was not successful.

The Hunsbury Hill Centre is a rare example of a model farm, built around 1770, including a large farmhouse, barns, animal sheds and ‘hovels’ set around an octagonal yard. It is thought to be the earliest surviving example of an 18th Century model farm in Northamptonshire. Although much of the farmland is now developed as housing, most of the buildings are intact and little changed. The two large barns are available for community use and the main farmhouse is used as offices for Northamptonshire ACRE.

Three important documents were produced as part of the planning phase. These are:

Access Plan – a document that identifies the barriers to access, identifies priorities and sets out a strategy to deal with these. These barriers may be organisational, physical, sensory, intellectual, social and cultural, and financial.
Audience Development Plan – this document will provide a structure for planning the specific activities that will allow us to reach existing and new target audiences and to offer them a high-quality experience that presents and interprets the heritage of the site.
Conservation Management Plan – a document that will explain why the heritage matters to people and sets out what NACRE can to do to look after it in any future use, alteration, development, management or repair.

More information about each of these and links to more information are given below. Some of the documents available to download are PDF files. You will need to have Acrobat Reader installed to open them.
