Community Shops
![]() Use it or lose it! |
Shops are closing for all sorts of reasons. Only when the shop has gone, do local people realise how much they have depended on it, most of all those who are constrained by lack of transport – the elderly, young parents and teenagers – those least able to help themselves.
But closure is not inevitable. If there’s a will there is often a way.
If you are facing losing your village shop then we can help. There are opportunities for communities to run their own village shop – owned, managed and operated by the villagers themselves and you’d be surprised at the help and support both in terms of advice and finance that is available. Here at Northamptonshire ACRE we have a handbook on Community Shops full of useful advice and support. If you would like a copy please get in touch with the rural team 01604 765888.
