Welcome to Northants ACRE, a charity that has been helping rural communities across Northamptonshire for over 75 years. We are the only organisation in the county dedicated to supporting rural areas, and we understand the unique needs of these communities.
We work to create thriving, inclusive and sustainable rural communities which are economically active and have the services they need. We believe no one should be disadvantaged because of where they live. We have a close relationship with Northamptonshires rural communities, we have excellent insight into the issues facing rural communities and the changes needed to improve opportunities for everyone in the countryside.
Our Commitment to Rural Communities
At Northants ACRE, we believe no one should be held back because of where they live. We work hard to make sure that rural communities have the same opportunities as those in towns and cities. We focus on helping rural areas stay active, sustainable, and well-served with the essential services people need.
Over the years, we’ve built strong relationships with rural communities in Northamptonshire, gaining a deep understanding of the challenges they face. We are committed to making life better in these areas, whether that’s by improving access to healthcare, supporting local businesses, or working on better transport links. We’re here to tackle the issues that matter most to rural residents.
Our Unique Role in Northamptonshire
As the only organisation of its kind in Northamptonshire, Northants ACRE plays a key role in supporting rural communities. We understand rural life well and work closely with local groups, charities, and individuals to help them overcome challenges. We believe that everyone should have equal opportunities, no matter where they live, and we work hard to make this happen.
We offer advice, resources, and support to local groups and organisations, helping them grow and create lasting change in their communities. From helping secure funding to offering training, we are here to support those who are working to make a difference in rural Northamptonshire.
Part of a National Network
We are one of 38 local community development agencies (also known as Rural Community Councils) working across England, which together with our national body, ACRE, form the ACRE network (#ACRENetwork). Like them we are here to ensure that rural communities receive fair and equal treatment in all areas and that no-one is disadvantaged by their rurality.
Our national body, ACRE works to make sure that government bodies listen to the needs and voices of rural communities, to ensure that new policies are rural proofed and fair. Our Network also provides us with a huge valuable resource of knowledge and support that we can tap into to help our members.
Why We Do It
At Northants ACRE, we believe that rural communities should have the same chances to succeed as any other area. Our work is driven by a strong desire to help rural areas stay strong, inclusive, and able to adapt to the changing world around them. We want rural communities not just to survive, but to thrive – places where people of all ages and backgrounds can live, work, and access the services they need.
We are here to speak up for rural Northamptonshire and will continue to work towards a future where every rural community has the support and opportunities it deserves.
