Real Impact: How We Help Our Members

Case Study 1
Creating a Community Hub icon

Creating a New
Community Hub

A village hall committee approached us about improving their building. After consultation and support from NACRE, they decided to build a new community hub on the existing site, incorporating additional land. We advised them on governance (becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation), project planning and funding. The new building was successful completed.

Refurbishment
Project

A village hall committee needed help with funding and planning a refurbishment project. We provided funding suggestions and advice about finding a surveyor and managing VAT. We also gave guidance on potential insurance issues, including whether a JCT minor building works contract might be needed.

Case Study 3
Reviewing a Governing Document

Amending a Governing Document

A community building charity asked for help with updating their governing document. We carried out a detailed review and were able to confirm that no major changes were needed. But we recommended adjustments to the committee structure. With our help, the trustees successfully made these changes without unnecessary legal cost or complications.

Village Hall Land Ownership

A village hall committee sought advice on extending their lease from the parish council. NACRE identified that the land was actually owned by the charity, not the council. The lease was invalid, thus a lease extension was not needed and legal costs were avoided.

Managing a Village Park icon

Managing a Village Park

A parish council needed help with a park which had been managed by a group of volunteers. We clarified that the park was owned by a local charity and that the parish council was sole trustee. We helped the council to understand its role and to transition management of the park to the charity.
